An official with Restaurants Canada says he’s shocked by the results of a Lakehead University study on the negative effects of increasing Ontario’s minimum wage.
James Rilett believes the study shows exactly what the industry has been saying all along, the legislation is bad for business.
The LU study shows upwards of 1,100 jobs in the area are at risk because of the changes.
He says the negative impacts of the changes are real and there are already Statistics Canada figures showing while restaurants are trying not to lay off people, they are cutting hours and raising menu prices.
Rilett says the study proves just how much of an effect it’s having here in the north.
