Ontario is taking action to save its bee populations.
The province has proposed legislation to reduce the use of neonic pesticides by 80 percent.
Dr. Anne Bell with Ontario Nature says it's the right time to act.
"Dramatic losses in the honeybee populations, including 58 per cent loss of the hives just last year," says Bell.
"We have 14 species of native bumble bees in Ontario, and half of those are either gone or they're in decline."
The proposed legislation will be in effect come July of next year.
