Ontario Provincial Police are keeping a close eye on motorists and their passengers for the next week.
Their annual Fall Seat Belt Enforcement campaign is underway.
Sergeant Shelley Garr says everyone in a moving vehicle must wear one, adding there’s no excuse not to buckle up.
“Wearing a seatbelt is crucial to surviving a crash,” Garr explains, “Even one unbuckled vehicle occupant can increase the risk of serious injury and death to other people in the vehicle.”
Garr says in three fatal vehicle accidents in northwestern Ontario this year, improper seatbelt use was identified.
She says despite all of the warnings and a provincial law being in place for decades, some still don’t get the message.
