It appears that pollution in the Thunder Bay Harbour isn’t bad enough to affect some bird eggs and cause deformities.
One environment official in the city says a study of gull eggs from the Mutton and Welcome Islands were compared to eggs found on Black Bay.
Jim Bailey says the results were positive, noting the research shows gull eggs from the harbour were no more contaminated than eggs from other areas of Lake Superior.
Back in the late 80’s, the harbour was identified as a pollution hotspot on the Great Lakes and it singled out contamination in wildlife.
Bailey is hoping these concerns can now be removed from a national list detailing pollution problems in the local harbour. (Photo supplied)
