As more sexual abuse allegations continue to surface in the news , the executive director of the Thunder Bay Sexual Abuse Centre says it’s a phenomenon happening here too.
Deborah Dika has noticed an increase in local abuse reporting, especially among young individuals, since she took over the centre a year and a half ago.
Dika says she’s not surprised, it just takes one person to come forward to open “the floodgates.”
She says it brings awareness that sexual abuse, or harassment, is happening everywhere and that it can happen to anybody no matter what your social status. (Stock photo)
