The topic of back yard chickens is coming back to City Council tonight.
Our Food Strategy Coordinator Kendal Donahue will be speaking about the research they’ve been doing to bring the idea to Thunder Bay.
Donahue says they hope after their presentation council will move to create a by-law.
Over 500 responses came in through the food strategy’s online survey about backyard chickens.
Meanwhile, city lawmakers are going to hear just how much money it will cost them if they implement a free veteran parking program.
According to city staff there are 181 registered veteran plated vehicles in our community and it would cost almost 2-thousand dollars to offer them free parking.
However, it could cost more if the estimate of almost 2-thousand veterans in Thunder Bay all attain special plates.
In that situation the city would pony up over 18-thousand dollars. There could also be an extra cost for administration and permits.
Finally, a couple of zoning issues are coming up at City Council tonight.
Planners are recommending council approve an exemption for a planned condo unit on Van Norman Street.
If approved, it will house 9 units and is being built on a portion of the former Hillcrest High school football field.
Meanwhile, a 78 unit mixed use building is planned for the school which would include three different condo projects each made up of an upwards of 20 or more apartments.
