Canadians will be looking to the sky this weekend.
In fact, across North America, people will be looking out their windows and taking to parks as part of the 21st annual Great Backyard Bird Count.
Each year citizen-scientists count the number of birds they see for at least 15 minutes before submitting the results online.
Bird Studies Canada spokesperson Kerri Wilcox says the data is useful in their research.
“We can get a real handle on trends in bird populations,” Wilcox explains, adding it can inform scientists which species are experiencing problems and which are doing well.
According to Wilcox, almost 15,000 checklists were submitted last year from across the country. (File Photo)
