Minister of Health Eric Hoskins is outlining a number of new funding initiatives that he feels will better the lives of Ontario’s Indigenous population.
Hoskins addressed First Nation leaders at a Health Transformation Summit in Toronto.
He told them that Ontario is funding 16 new or expanded primary care team clinics across the province that will serve over 70,000 Indigenous people.
15 of those teams are going to be directly led by First Nations organizations.
Hoskins added they are also funding several First Nation led mental health and wellness programs.
Across the Nishnawbe Aski Nation territory, 10 organizations will receive first round funding for their mental health and wellness program proposals.
Four organizations will receive funding for interprofessional primary care team proposals: Taykwa Tagamou Nation, the Mushkegowuk Council, Matawa Health Cooperative and Sioux Lookout First Nation Health Authority. (File photo)
