The event centre is one step closer to reality now that city councillors have voted to go to phase four of the project.
Council voted to allow their staff to formally ask for funding from both levels of government and possibly even the private sector. City Manager Tim Commisso says the city’s share of the project, if the government monies comes through, is estimated at 42 million dollars.
Some councillors, like Joe Virdiramo, felt there was no need for any extended debate because there was no cost to the city to take it to phase four. City staff say if funding goes through and Council approves the project construction could start in June of next year. (File Photo)
