Millions of dollars are going towards the purchase of 2,517 acres of land along Lake Superior’s North Shore.
It’s known as Big Trout Bay and it’s just 45 minutes from Thunder Bay.
It’s part of a Nature Conservancy of Canada initiative and Ontario Vice President James Duncan says it took lots of team work to bring in the money for it including money from our Federal Government, the United States and donations from across Canada and Thunder Bay.
The property includes 21 kilometers of undeveloped shoreline with towering cliffs, stretches of open bedrock and rugged cobble beach. These shorelines are important for lake trout, moose, peregrine falcons and rare types of plants.
The Canadian Government kicked in $3 million towards the conservancy project.
Duncan says once they get a better idea of the shape of the property they will open it up to the public to visit.
