Ontario’s top public health officer is urging parents to have their kids vaccinated, saying there’s no way of knowing how strong their child’s immune system might be.
Dr. David Williams says for those not vaccinated against a broad range of illnesses, an outbreak could prove tragic. And with the new school year just around the corner, he says it’ll be important to keep close track of all student vaccinations.
He says they need to know who in the classroom is vaccinated and is protected, who’s not and is vulnerable and who poses a potenial risk to the classroom in the event of an outbreak.
Proposed legislation would require parents and guardians who choose not to have their children vaccinated for non-medical reasons to take an education session from the local health unit – to help them make an informed decision. (File photo)
