The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada is holding its closing events starting today in Ottawa.
The Commission has spent 6 years listening to the stories of Aboriginal people who attended residential schools.
Ontario Regional Chief Stan Beardy says now that the Commission has finished its hearings, it’s time for Canadians to face the past. Beardy says we have a collective responsibility to make sure it’s dealt with and that more importantly, that it doesn’t happen again.
Nishawbe Aski Nation Deputy Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler says it’s the beginning of another chapter. He says the work the Commission has started must go on.
A declaration for a call to action will be signed tomorrow.
