In Saskatchewan, the death toll has risen to 15 in a fatal bus crash involving the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team.
In a statement, RCMP have confirmed that a fifteenth person passed away after Friday night’s collision with a transport truck, 30 kilometres north of Tisdale, Saskatchewan.
Mounties are now saying that there were 29 people on board the team’s bus, and multiple media outlets are reporting that the team’s captain, head coach, and a Humboldt radio announcer have been identified among the deceased.
14 others remain in hospitals in Saskatoon, some with critical injuries.
An online fundraiser has been set up for the victims’ families to help cover expenses.
It’s raised more than $3.2 million of its $4 million goal.
The hockey community is showing its support for the team, their families, and the town of Humboldt.
Many teams observed a moment of silence before their games Saturday, including SIJHL and West Regional teams playing in Thunder Bay, along with many NHL teams. (File Photo)
