Our Health Unit wants to improve kids’ dental hygiene this year through the Healthy Smiles Ontario program.
It offers dental screenings and fluoride treatment for children at local daycares and schools, along with a clinic at the Health Unit.
Dental Health Educator Megan Puksa says we have a tooth decay rate double that of the rest of the province, and hopes they can reach out to parents through the Healthy Smiles Ontario program.
“So that we can get some good oral habits started very early on,” she explains, “Good nutrition, good brushing, just getting the word out about our clinic so they can utilize those services.”
She adds that they saw over 400 kids age 17 and under through the program last year, an increase of around 90 children over 2016. (File Photo)
